After the considerable damage caused by Cyclone Fehi and Gita last summer, it’s fantastic to see the immediate repairs to the coastal section of the trail complete. A massive thanks to the Nelson Tasman Cycle Trails Trust, local businesses, landowners, Rotary groups and MBEI (Ministry of business, Innovation & employment) for providing $300,000 of funding to fix, strengthen and future proof the Great Taste Trail for the coming summer.
The Great Taste Trail is another step closer to being complete after the welcome announcement of $2.4 million in Government funding to the Trail. With matched funding from the Nelson City and Tasman District Council, ratepayers and businesses, this goes a long way to completing the trail and adds to the already impressive network of both mountain bike and cycle trails, cementing sunny Nelson as the NZ cycling mecca!
With funding released, its fantastic to see the Norris Gully/Spooner’s Tunnel section to Kohatu is now finished (as of 15/12/18) and the 5 km section from Wakefield to Wai-iti domain has just commenced, due to be finished by the end of summer 2019. The next stages of the trail from Kohatu to Tapawera and Tapawera to Woodstock will see the completion of The Great Taste Trail!
