Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes we do! They are a very popular gift. From an e-bike hire and ferry pass, to multi day trips for friends and family!

  • As with many things, it depends! As a guide, allow one hour per 10 kilometers. Remember that you can take all day, so even a leisurely two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon will take you 40 kilometers.

The trails we operate on are well-made, with some gradual climbs, and we design our tours so that all distances are achievable for the beginner to average rider. If you are worried about your fitness we can work on adjusting a tour to match your ability, or you could consider taking one of our fantastic electric bikes!

  • We have put together the weather by month for each of our depots. Check out the temperature for Nelson, West Coast, and Central Otago.

Nelson is known for it’s plentiful sunshine and mild weather. Always be prepared for rain in the West Coast, and Central Otago has wonderful weather, but can get cold at night, even during the summer.

All of the trails we ride are very well built and maintained so they can be ridden year-round, in all weather. This leaves you the option to ride whenever suits you!

  • We have found that most people choose our trail comfort bikes due to their natural, upright riding position. This keeps you comfortable for a relaxing day of riding.

For riders wanting something more capable, we also offer mountain bikes that have a more sporty but have a less upright riding position.

All of our bikes are available in a full range of sizes.

  • We provide all the basic riding equipment with bike rentals: spare tube, tyre levers, pump and lock.

You need to bring comfortable and appropriate riding gear for the season, so check out the weather for Nelson, West Coast, and Central Otago. Note that West Coast has relatively high rainfall, and Central Otago gets cold overnight throughout the year.

Here is a comprehensive list of gear that you should consider taking with you:

    Appropriate waterproof/breathable jacket

    Walking/running shoes

    Leggings or leg warmers

Breathable long and/or short sleeve top

    Cycle gloves

    Cycle shorts

    Food and water

    Camera

  • Kiwi Journeys are only a call away.

We maintain our rental fleet fastidiously, and our bikes are supplied with spare tubes, levers and instructions should the air travel to the top of your tyre.

In the rare occasion something does happen that you can’t fix on the trail, you can be rest assured that we are there to support you should you need it.

  • The rides we operate on are very popular, and therefore are well covered by our mobile networks. However, some of the more remote areas could be out of coverage, depending on your provider.

Check out coverage maps from Spark, One NZ, and 2 Degrees, our most popular mobile networks.
