  • Start the adventure by cycling over the Totara River and along the Ross Ruatapu Railway line, taking in incredible views of the mighty Mt Cook and Mt Tasman.

    You will continue through wetlands and native bush before arriving at the Treetop Walkway. The trail continues along the Mahinapua Tramline before arriving in Hokitika.

  • After being shuttled to Milltown Gate, you will be back up in the Mountains.

    The Southern Alps make another welcome appearance today so take the time to snap some photos. From here, smooth sweeping boardwalk and bush trail will take you down into Kumara.

    Highlights include stands of Native Bush including thousands of Rimu trees, giving you an energy that has to be witnessed.

  • Hop on your bikes and head to the coast! The last ride of the trip rewards you with flawless views of the Taramakau River before making the journey to the Tasman Sea alongside coastal sand dunes and lagoons.

You will pass through historic gold mining sites, along early bush tram tracks and over former railway bridges. Enjoy some classic West Coast hospitality, visitor attractions, cafés, accommodation and shopping along the way. Flanked by the stunning panoramas of the Southern Alps to the east and the Tasman Sea to the West, the West Coast Wilderness Trail is a unique and memorable experience.

The trail showcases some of the most outstanding scenery on the South Island’s West Coast with a diversity of landscapes second to none.
