Coastal Elegance & Treetop Thrills
Begin your journey from Kiwi Journeys’ base in Hokitika. After a brief bike briefing, set off on the renowned West Coast Wilderness Trail. Cycle south from Hokitika, crossing the Hokitika River bridge and riding alongside a lush golf course before entering the captivating Kohaihai Forest. This enchanting forest is known for its towering kahikatea and totara trees, creating a serene canopy overhead. Glide over boardwalks, traverse wetlands, and follow the historic Mahinapua Tramline, a key part of the region’s early logging industry.
You’ll soon reach the Treetops Walkway, where you’ll take a break from cycling to explore the elevated walkways. Spend an hour soaking in the sights and sounds of the native forest, listen to vibrant birdlife, and enjoy panoramic views of Lake Mahinapua from the treetop canopy. This is also a great spot for a leisurely lunch at the cafe.
For a touch of thrill, climb the steps to the top of the spiral tower and experience the excitement of a tandem zipline ride, soaring 47 meters above the ground through the lush Rimu forest.
Return by bike along the same route to Hokitika, where you’ll settle into your luxurious Beachfront ocean-view room at the Hokitika Beachfront Hotel. Enjoy stunning views of the Tasman Sea and the enchanting West Coast sunset.
